Am I Suitable for Laser Hair Removal?

Absolutely – the majority of people are suitable for Laser Hair Removal Treatments. Laser light is attracted to dark hair follicles and therefore the darker the hair follicle, the more likely it is to permanently remove your unwanted hair. The only exception is for those with blonde, red or white hair whereby Laser Hair Removal Treatments will not work at all.

WHAT IS LASER HAIR REMOVAL?  Laser Hair Removal is suitable for both men and women, and more people are discovering the benefits of laser hair removal every day. More than 70% of males and 85% of females now use laser hair removal with a success rate of 85-99% permanent hair reduction after just 6 to 10 treatments. The technology exposes your hair follicles to pulses of laser light destroying their ability to regrow, and significantly removing your unwanted hair.

HOW DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL COMPARE TO OTHER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENTS?  Traditional hair removal methods include shaving, waxing, plucking and depilatory creams. These are only temporary fixes that are often inconvenient, painful, and irritating to the skin. Waxing is painful and can damage the surface of your skin. Depilatory creams are quite toxic and work by changing the chemical makeup of the hair. This means that the hair falls out easily, but will regrow quickly as it has had no effect on the hair follicle.  Laser provides gentle, non-invasive, chemical free, and long-lasting solutions to remove unwanted hair on any body area.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO PREPARE?  If you have been bleaching your hair, you will need to allow the normal colour to regrow before proceeding with laser. Otherwise there is no preparation required, other than shaving the area the night before, and avoid using deodorants and other skin products on the area on the day of your treatment.

WHAT HAPPENS IN A LASER HAIR REMOVAL TREATMENT?  Laser Hair Removal is a very safe procedure, that is customised according to your specific skin type and hair colour. Our laser technicians will shave away any hair above the surface of the skin. The device handpiece is moved over the treatment area, emitting light-based energy in short pulses. The condensed light will heat the hair to a point that will affect its ability to regrow. Hair that is hidden beneath the skin at the time of treatment will shed over the next week or two.

DOES LASER HAIR REMOVAL HURT?  Laser Hair Removal is virtually painless and is a much more pleasant treatment experience than waxing, tweezing, and electrolysis, which are much more aggressive and damaging to the skin. You may feel a short burst of heat as the condensed light reaches your hair follicles, and some people describe the sensation as a tingling or a slight pinching sensation.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROCEDURE TAKE?  The initial treatment can take as little as 5 minutes to over an hour depending on the size of the area being targeted. You will be given an approximate treatment time by our qualified staff when booking your appointment. However, the majority of treatments take less than 20 minutes, and people return to their lives immediately after treatment with no downtime.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS DO I NEED?  The number of treatments depends on your specific skin type and colour, the thickness and density of hair, and the size of the treatment area. On average, 6 and 10 treatments will result in 85-99% permanent hair reduction.

HOW LONG SHOULD I WAIT BETWEEN SESSIONS?  Your hair will regrow after scheduled Laser Hair Removal sessions. We recommend scheduling your appointments 4 to 6 weeks apart. After each treatment your hair will regrow thinner and softer and with less area coverage than before.

CAN ALL HAIR BE TREATED?  Laser Hair Removal is limited only by hair colour. The technology uses the hair pigment to transfer heat into the hair follicles beneath the skin. Treatments are proven to be effective on any hair with at least some pigment. This includes a wide range of hair colours, from auburn to brown and dark black hair. Unfortunately, the effective treatment of white and light blond hairs is limited due to their lack of pigment.

ARE THERE ANY AFTER EFFECTS OR RISKS I NEED TO BE AWARE OF?  Laser Hair Removal will not damage your skin, if you are being treated by good quality technology and by a qualified therapist. After effects are minimal with only slight swelling and pinkness to sensitive skins, which usually fades in a few minutes depending on your skin type. However, it is still important to follow post and aftercare advice stringently. And please inform us of any contradictions and deviations you have made to your aftercare plan.

WHEN WILL I SEE THE RESULTS OF THE TREATMENT?  The results of Laser Hair Removal is instantaneous. From your very first session you will leave with silky smooth skin. After a few weeks, you will notice the hair regrowing, however this will be fewer, finer and weaker than before treatment, and you will notice further improvement with every treatment. Scientific studies show that the use of targeted, light-based energy permanently destroys hair follicles at the cellular level. Each subsequent Laser Hair Removal treatment will result in a significant reduction in regrowth in the treatment area.
