Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy: The Vampire Facial

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is a current skin rejuvenating treatment sometimes known as the Vampire Facial. PRP earned the informal nickname “Vampire Facial” as the treatment itself uses the patient’s own blood, therefore making the treatment 100% safe and natural! This treatment has gained a lot of media attention because of its popularity amongst celebrities and its sensational nickname. Many clients who come into our clinic do not know much about the power of PRP but have heard of its daring nickname and age rewinding qualities in the media and magazines. This blog is aimed at supplying you with all the facts about PRP and explaining the many ways in which it can be used!

PRP therapy was first developed, used and validated for orthopedic surgery with a body of clinical literature accumulated over more than thirty years.

Where Did It Come From

Originally PRP was first formulated and authenticated for orthopedic surgery and has over 30 years worth of studies and clinical literature supporting the effectiveness of PRP. However, PRP treatments have now been adopted into the cosmetic surgery industry to treat a wide variety of concern areas, ranging from a client’s face, neck, décolletage, hands, breasts, nipples and even sexual organs and hair loss! Yes, you heard it- PRP is used to help enhance sexual function and much more!

How Does It Work

PRP works by extracting patients own the healing platelets from their blood plasma and re-injecting it into their body to enhance healing. Platelets are tiny blood cells that are important in the clotting process. As the clot is produced, the platelets releases enzymes, which stimulates healing that plays a major a role in tissue regeneration by attracting stem cells at aid in the repair of a damaged area. Much like the medical purpose and procedure, this the same process used in the vampire facials and other PRP aesthetic treatments. The patient’s own blood is drawn, treated and then the platelet-rich plasma is injected into their face and or other treated area. Injections are made into strategic areas to encourage skin healing and renewal through new collagen production and fresh skin cells full of human growth factors. This increase in collagen and growth factors creates a more youthful, plumper, and firmer appearing skin and to increase sensitivity to sexual organs.

Who Should Get PRP

As PRP is all natural and gathered from within our bodies, most individuals are ideal candidates for this treatment. One important thing all patients must note is that the healthier the patient is, the better the treatment will work. PRP is not recommended for smokers due to their decreased platelet activity. However, PRP is a great and successful treatment for anyone with the following concerns…

  • Crow’s feet
  • Dark circles around the eyes
  • Fine lines around the mouth
  • Dull, rough, or grey skin tone and texture
  • Sun damaged skin
  • Acne scarring
  • Crepey skin in the eye, neck and décolletage areas
  • Sexual sensitivity loss and function
  • Hair loss

Recovery After PRP

PRP treatments require little recovery time. There may be redness and some tenderness on the first day that appears and some occasional bruising. However, the initial redness will subside by the second day or third day. Some patients can experience some swelling and craping of the skin by the second day, however, this should diminish within twenty-four to forty-eight hours.

Although this treatment can have slight side effects post-treatment, most of the time these symptoms are minor and require no significant downtime. Most of our patients are able to go back to their regular daily activities after their treatment.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

  • Anti-aging anywhere from 3 to 4 treatments
  • Scarring 6 or more treatments
  • Breasts and nipple 1 to 2 treatments
  • Genitals 1 to 2 treatments
  • Hair loss varies patient to patient
