Why Avoid Cheap Cleansers and Skin Care Products?
By Abigail Hoad
While many of our beloved cleansers, moisturisers and sunscreens are affordable, they are also potentially doing more harm than good for our skin! In this blog post we address why you might want to avoid cheap cleansers and skin care products.
Found in many cleansers and beauty products from retail stores, there can be a handful chemicals, parabens and other nasties that can be worrying for our overall health.
HERE ARE SOME INGREDIENTS TO LOOK OUT FOR:
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate or Sodium Laureth Sulphate (SLS) – foaming agent that is found in cleansers and cosmetic products causing skin irritation and can cause allergies to appear.
Artificial fragrance and perfume – found in many products to create or cover a smell, with the intention to create a more desirable product. This can cause an irritation reaction and potentially be harming your blood-stream and internal organs.
Triclosan – found in many skincare items to create an antibacterial effect, potentially damaging the immune system and creating antibacterial resistant bacteria, as well as inflaming the gut and promoting tumour growth.
Oxybenzone – found in many sunscreens it is absorbed into the bloodstream and internal organs, can create hormone problems for both men and women as well as exacerbating endometriosis.
Hydroquinone – highly toxic chemical found in many beauty products. It is a skin bleaching chemical that can cause significant damage to organs and is extremely toxic during pregnancy.
These are just SOME of the nasty ingredients that can be found in cheap and mass marketed skin and beauty products. Next time you’re shopping for beauty or skin care produces check the label to ensure you are making a good choice!
